Current national affairs have left me with a bitter conscience and moist eyes. How can a nation be so dumb?
Have we eventually lost track of our goal as a nation at large or have we just given up on everything we ever hoped for?
Okay. You are lost?
Let me launch a man hunt.
Our president is now a free man.
Courtesy of that, a cohort of very “patriotic” Kenyans chose to take to the streets to celebrate the victory.
And I was (still I’m) left wondering, what is there to revel?
Are these people aware that 7 years down the line we still have KENYANS living in makeshift tents leading a totally deplorable life?
And there you are binge drinking and toasting to “uhuru wa Uhuru”
So much for joy huh?
In a specific scene, I singled out this particular guy who had very red lips. Not as a result of make-up but the outcome of drowning his frustrations at Mama Pima’s illicit brew den just next to the chief’s camp. Yet the same fella uses those acrylic lips to express his joy. Fool!
I bet he is not even aware that he cannot afford a decent drink because some self-centered individual in the loins of power makes sure the tax on booze is so high in order to buy themselves that piece of land in Karen.
Do not get me wrong. I am not blaming anyone for illicit brews, but I know something can be done about them.
We are a brainwashed lot.
People who are too eager to celebrate even when there’s no bliss inducing occurrence.
We are stuck so deep in our sorrows that we embrace that fake or rather self-induced moment of joy with so much balminess, just to forget the pain and anguish we are undergoing.
So now that our president is a free man, I wonder how many IDPs are free as well.
How many of them will be freed from the shackles of poverty and poor living conditions?
How many children in those IDP camps are finally going to get decent education?
How many women will finally be in a position to access better maternal care?
There is (and will be) absolutely nothing to smile about till all those people in those camps get freedom from their tents.
Let Mr. Kenyatta celebrate his freedom. It is HIS!
How I wish people understood that it is the president who has been freed. Not our country.
